Is this medical advice?

No. Everything on this site, including the guides, short answers, tools and video summaries, is general health education. It explains how conditions are usually understood and managed. It cannot take into account your own history, examination, reports and other medicines, which is what a doctor does when advising you.

Does reading this site make me Dr. Om’s patient?

No. Reading a page, using a tool or watching a video does not create a doctor and patient relationship with Dr. Om J Lakhani or anyone else. If you would like Dr. Om’s advice about your own situation, you can book a consultation.

Can I change my medicines based on what I read here?

Please do not start, stop or change any medicine on your own because of something on this site. Some medicines, such as insulin, steroids and thyroid medicines, can be dangerous to stop suddenly or to change without supervision. Take what you have read to your doctor and discuss it together.

What should I do in an emergency?

This site is not for emergencies. If you or someone near you has chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, a seizure, sudden weakness, confusion, or very high or very low sugar readings with symptoms, call 108 or 112, or go to the nearest emergency department straight away.

What about the tools?

The tools on this site, such as the BMI calculator or the thyroid report reader, are for screening and education only. They work from the numbers you type in and from published formulas. They cannot diagnose a condition, and a normal or abnormal result should always be discussed with your doctor. See the tools section for what each tool does and its limits.

How current is the information?

We try to keep pages accurate and up to date, and each page shows when it was last updated and whether Dr. Om has personally reviewed it. Medical knowledge changes, and some pages are published before his review. How pages are made and checked is explained in the editorial policy.
